About us
Why OVREN?

Nowadays, thousands of Vietnamese are working as either a researcher or an educator overseas; most of them are working in developed countries such as United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, European Union and Australia. They have become a valuable component of the scientific community in both the countries they are working and internationally.

Generosity is one of many characteristics that dominated in a scientist; many have been trying to help their colleagues in Vietnam in one way or another. Many of which have been recognized by various individuals and policy makers in Vietnam: Dr. Nguyen Chanh Khe. Dr. Nguyen Quoc Binh, Professor Nguyen Dang Hung, Professor Nguyen Van Tuan to name a few. Unfortunately, not many overseas Vietnamese Scientists can find a connection to aide their domestic colleagues. This is especially true for those having been out of Vietnam for a longer duration.

Understanding this situation wholeheartedly, we, a small group of overseas Vietnamese Researchers, have developed a project to create a network for all Overseas Vietnamese Scientists. The official name is Overseas Vietnamese Researcher and Educator Network, or OVREN. At the first step, OVREN is implemented as an informal social network with the idea of serving the scientific community.

Who are the OVREN members?

One major component for OVREN members are the overseas Vietnamese Scientists, all of which include those in graduate schools, post-doctorate fellows, research scientists, and faculty members. They are also staff scientists working in the industry, mostly high tech corporations. OVREN, however, would be nonexistent without the participation of Vietnamese Scientists in Vietnam. Researchers and educators in Vietnam are invited to join us as core members. Next to that, any individuals interested in Science and Education are invited to become regular members by voicing their opinions over the issues of Science and Education. In conclusion, OVREN members will be classified into the following groups:

- Regular members or any individuals interested in Science and Education, and

- Core members or any Researchers and Educators actively working overseas and in Vietnam. Core members need to have their e-mail verified by the administration group. In addition, they are encouraged to include their scientific resume under their profiles to facilitate an exchange of information and collaborations. Graduate students belongs to this group.

- Executive members which include high-profile researchers and educators, working for various non-profit Institutions OVREN executive members are required to have sufficient computer skills allowing them to interact with other OVREN groups. The last but not least are:

- Honor members or one of the most prestigious groups. Honor members are any outstanding researchers and educators from all over the globe whose visions will help impact dramatic changes in Science. Honor members can be natives of other countries provided their interests at hand are for the better of Science and Education in Vietnam. They do not have to interact with other OVREN members on a regular basis, however, they are expected to be available for comments and opinions. Retirees with great contribution to promoting Science and Education in Vietnam are also included in this group.

What OVREN members do at OVREN?

OVREN members come to OVREN to express themselves and to be heard. They are expected to exchange information in a friendly and professional manner, and to help encourage the professional growth of one another. This assistance is expected to aide in the promotion of research and education and not for personal and commercial purposes. OVREN members are NOT expected to contribute money for this project, however, if any members would like to contribute money in the form of scholarships for the students, they are encouraged to do so. OVREN members are invited to join OVREN Journal Clubs provide researchers the ability to publish their works in existing international journals while promoting scientific information exchange between domestic researchers and the world of science communities. The assistance could be language editing, pre-submission reviewing, or collaboration to answer the questions raised in the proposed work but could not be answered by domestic researchers due to limited resources. If collaboration is to take place, it is understood that the collaborators will have share authorship.

OVREN is implemented as a dynamic society, our activities will be developed and adjusted from time to time to fit our objectives and social environment. Above all, OVREN members are expected to act in accordance with the local and international laws and regulations.

Serving the community is our objective; hence, we will change responsibly upon suggestions from our members.
